EducationHonors Bachelor in Health Sciences at the University of Western Ontario
Currently completing my post-graduate certificate at Georgian College for the Communicative Disorders Assistant Program
Also enrolled for my Masters in Speech Language Pathology for September 2013.
ExperienceI'm currently on a 2 month placement at Surrey Place in Toronto, Ontario. Surrey place specializes in providing services for children with developmental disabilities. The services I assist in providing in collaboration with Speech-language pathologists are speech therapy services. I work with a wide range of children that vary across the spectrum.
In the past I've tutored for math, reading and writing at the elementary level.
I've also volunteered at the London Speech and Language Clinic where I was assigned one child for our Saturday Read It UP and Talk It Up programs. I worked in collaboration with Educational Coordinators and Speech Language Pathologists in coordinating, executing and tailoring treatment strategies for various types of children. Some of our children had developmental delays and/or disabilities, intellectural disabilities and/or speech impediments and/or language impediments. I then implemented the child's tailored goals into the classroom throughout everyday activities and worked with the child in achieving his/her goals!
I would love to be a tutor because I greatly enjoy working with children. Throughout my educational and volunteer experience I've learned several strategies from social strategies to language and speech strategies. I've had the pleasure of witnessing and learning first hand what how these strategies can be implemented in session and also at home to help your child and my client reach the developmental milestones that they need assistance in reaching. It is such a joy to be able to help a child that needs my help so they can reach their optimal potential!
