Experience
After receiving my Honours B.A., and later my M.A. in Medieval and Modern Languages from The University of Oxford, I taught Spanish (along with French, German and Italian) at the Royal Hospital School, a top independent boarding school in the United Kingdom. During my time as a teacher, I had the opportunity to teach students ranging from those learning simple vocabulary to Oxford/Cambridge applicants preparing lengthy dissertations on controversial social topics in the target language. In order to incorporate new learning theories, I eschewed standardised lessons and textbooks for my classes, opting instead to develop my own materials that could be adapted to a wider variety of ability levels, educational needs and learning styles. I found the ability to develop a curriculum specific to my teaching style and my students' needs to be very beneficial in terms of my students' achievement, and the ability to create lessons that specifically leverage particular aspects of learning theory very rewarding in terms of my development as a teacher. Since moving to Canada I have decided to return to university to study for my PhD and am currently researching language acquisition in young children.

Hobbies
I am a mom to three small children (a toddler and twins) and understand the concerns of parents wanting to give their children the best start in life (hence the fact I am raising them to be bilingual). I am also a keen musician and classically trained singer. I paint and scrapbook in my spare time and am a member of numerous book clubs in the Durham area.
